STEP 01 / RECALL
Your turn, then the answer. The parts of a useful update
Read the purpose, say a phrase, then reveal an example. Use at least four phrases with your own details.
Say three sentences: a confirmed arrangement for Friday, an earlier intention for the visit, and an offer you make now.
Answers: compare after your attempt
“We’re meeting the buyer on Friday.”
“We’re going to discuss the promotion.”
“I’ll send the invitation today.”
Other answers may work. Choose a form that expresses your meaning.
STEP 02 / CLEAR SPEECH
Listen. Say it. Use it.Clear sounds in useful words
Use the sound-spelling work from Word Chains (PronPack 2.12) and Corner to Corner (2.2, version 5). Say the sounds in useful workplace phrases.
“I read emails every day.” “Yesterday, I read the update.”
The vowel changes. Try “That sounds good.”
Goal and show share a vowel. Now has a different vowel.
Try first: group the sounds
Which word is different in each group? Say why.
1. meeting · head · team
2. food · good · would
3. goal · show · now
Answers: check your groups
1. head: its vowel differs from meeting and team.
2. food: good and would share a vowel.
3. now: goal and show share a vowel.
Aim to be easy to understand. Your teacher’s feedback matters more than copying an accent.
STEP 03 / SPEAKING
A first try. Two improvements. A second try.A useful update for your manager
Use the fictional situation below. Prepare keywords, then give a 60–90-second message. Complete the first attempt before opening the model.
The room is unavailable
- Agreed buyer meeting
- Friday at 10:00, 30 minutes
- Purpose
- Discuss the promotion plan
- Problem
- No meeting room
- Possible solution
- Meet online at the same time
Brief your manager. Explain the issue, recommend a solution with a reason, ask for agreement and offer a next action with a deadline.
After your attempt: reveal one model
Here’s a quick update on the customer visit. We’re meeting the buyer on Friday at ten to discuss the promotion plan. There’s one problem: the meeting room is unavailable. I suggest meeting online because we can keep the same time. Does that work for you? I’ll send the meeting link by three today.
One possible response. Close it and use your own words.
Record and listen back optional
Audio stays in this tab. Download a take to keep it before leaving.
Or practise aloud without recording.
“The buyer can’t meet on Friday. They can meet on Monday at nine or eleven. I’m only free at eleven. What do you suggest?”
Your turn: Choose a time that works for both people. Give your reason, then confirm the action, owner and deadline. Record your revised update with fewer notes.
After your reply: reveal a possible response
Let’s meet online on Monday at eleven for thirty minutes. That works for you and the buyer. We’re going to discuss the promotion plan. I’ll confirm the change with the buyer and send a revised invitation by four today. Does that work for you?
Other workable answers are possible. Keep the agreed constraints.
Now speak again. Use your two improvements, the new time and fewer notes.

A useful habit
Choose one phrase that was difficult. Say it clearly, put it in a sentence, then use it again tomorrow.
